Adams, John. “The True Sentiment of America.”
August 31, 1765
Boston Gazette. In one of the series of articles that later become A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law , Adams calls on Colonial newspaper to “Be not intimidated, therefore, by any terrors, from publishing with the utmost freedom . . . Nor suffer yourself to be wheedled out of your liberty by any pretences of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery, and cowardice.”
